(Another reblog from my first month here – January.)
does authority shackle us
in a shadow world of half-truths
cast before us by unseen fire
is enlightenment after all
merely the selfsame illusions
by different inadequate light
can the sunlit unfettered few
convince us the world offers more
than dark reflections from the pyre
between truth and perception are
distortions imposed by those who
prefer we have ignorant sight
(originally posted January 2013)
“those who prefer we have ignorant sight”

I think a rad better than my Philosopher’s ‘Block’ the other day! A recital of this before my son’s musical composition on said allegory would have been the icing on the cake. Thanks for this post.

glad you liked it, Mike – it was one of the first poems I wrote when I started this blog a year ago

It left me feeling so empty and insignificant. But you couched it in rhetoricals and I can scream back at them with a recalcitrant “I am”.
