mindless captives
cringe helplessly
caught up in tasteless
trite freakishness
bleak sordid precincts
that no self-respecting
observer would visit
yet nonetheless crowded
with wide-eyes and slack-jaws
transfixed and afflicted
dipped in disease that
no popcorn or lemonade
ever could medicate
turning the TV screen
in on itself where gray
worms of inanity
slither toward ears
that give access to
dormant unseasoned
delectable brains
with a craving for
artless crude slices
of sad pointless lives
called reality even though
all that is real is their
sickening stench of a
decomposed culture
So, tell me, what do you realllly think?:)

You’ve really captured it. I’m not really much of a tv watcher and I’ve never understood the appeal of so-called reality tv. There are so many things to read, learn about, and explore. Why waste any of your precious life on that kind of drivel?

They banned freak shows in the circus and rightly so. Now they put them on TV. A really powerful poem expressing righteous indignation! Bravo!

Great poem–I for one, cannot and will not watch those programs. I don’t understand how there could be enough monetary gain to make it worthwhile to exhibit oneself, and family, in such a demeaning fashion.

On Google Play’s “TV Shows Now Available” slot, you’ll find the promotional image to be that of (drums please….!)…
Yep, the one and only Honey…
I am truly sorry for these children being dragged into what they would never do themself at their age. This is ruthless pragmatism at the expense of innocents. People get angry about child labour, and rightly so! What about this?

hadn’t even thought about in those terms – you are certainly right – there ought to be outrage

wow, I give you great credit – disabled as I am, I could never do without TV – it’s become my window on the world – all the more reason to resent its trashy components
