Hurricane Sandy, October 2012:
summer cried as she died
but her torrents of tears
couldn’t kill off her killer
couldn’t staunch Armageddon
winds howling with rampage
heaved up a black ocean
to drown and dissolve
all her seasons of sand
tearing mirth from their memories
leaving its splinters
to float upon winter
Conflagration, September 2013:
summer cried as she died
but her torrents of tears
couldn’t kill off her killer
couldn’t staunch Armageddon
flames roaring with rampage
consumed revived enterprise
burned to hot choking ash
hopes for seasons of sand
torching mirth from their futures
leaving columns of smoke
to blacken the winter
summer cried as she died
tumbled into mad seas
summer cried as she died
lost to scorched acrid breeze
summer cried as she died
felled again to her knees
summer cried as she died
pray it won’t come in threes
Amazing, that this could happen. I especially love your, “seasons of sand”–perfection, beautiful.

My husband says this thing about things coming in threes is very Italian but there it is in your beautiful poem. I told him this was an ethnic slur!

oh, no slur, just a cultural superstition I grew up with

And then the remnants of the storms are sent our way! Or at least that’s what the weather girl on TV says. Great Poem.
