obey is an odd little word
that consternates modern ears
once featured in Anglican marrying vows
it’s fallen away through the years
it was jolly old Henry the eighth
put it into the mouths of Brit brides
it gave him excuse to lop off the heads
of his less than obedient wives
Like the way it ends

Hah! Guess I’ve been single too long–I read obey as “obie” and wondered what interesting lesson in archaic definitions you were going to provide us.

ha ha – no archaic definition this time – just an archaic mindset

For sure–I’d like to see “obey” changed to “respect”–as the prevailing mindset.

too funny! I actually had that word removed from my marriage vows, both times, hehehe, and look where it got me? happily divorced and still I have my head! 😉

ha ha – I really can’t remember for sure, but I think it was in my wife’s vows – we’re still going strong at 45 years and counting – and obedience was never a factor LOL
