homely vessel
this antique tin cup
battered dented
black bottomed
from too many
campfires burning
on too many trails
rinsed too often
in sulfurous pools
muddied coffee
or watery whiskey
chased choke dust
from leather lipped
mouth-breathing
maw given over
to sighs for that
long ago time
when the ride
was less lonely
when saddlebags
bulged with sweet
purpose and travel
was mounted for
real destinations
not merely to
wander in aimless
perpetual motion
Beautiful stuff – a prospectors lament I pictured upon reading yet plainly it is much more than that

sometimes, I don’t know where they come from – as I’ve never been lonely in my entire life

I think it was the young Bob Dylan who once said words to the effect that he plucks his lyrics out of the air as they fly by!

This is a cup that has been on o journey of enrichment called life and smiles at fear 🙂

For some reason the entire thing reminds me of a song ‘I’m a poor lonesome cowboy and I’m a long, long way from home.’ Keep on blogging in a free world. – The False Prophet.
