the heart of a poet
bleeds incongruous ink
beats avant-garde tempo
distinctly unique lingual
grammar and syntax
a personal canon
expressive of character
warmed by the ardor
inflaming its host
here is center
this prodigy organ
possessed of first principles
liquescent art
pumped through finger veins
arteries carrying words
in a fluid suspension
to body parts
known to communicate
swelled by a beautiful plasma
tumescent and ripe
for the spilling
the writing
the telling
the touching
of other hearts
poorly sustained by
prosaic derivative authorship
ready receptive
and needing of nourish
a vital esthetic enrichment
by riveting verse
Very Organic . . .

The passion of these words is strong – for mere mortals like me ‘try harder’. Superb poetic analysis.

Yes! I can feel your heartbeat. And it pumps so rich, a flood, delicatessen, feeding words, ecstatic blood, funnelled through the man and the spirit intertwined, I can taste your heart like a fine red wine.
Sounds a bit vampirish but you know what I mean. 🙂 This courses with life and meaning. ‘A personal canon’, now isn’t that poetry always. I’m going to remember this one when writing.

I really love this poem about the “heart of a poet”, by Paul Lenzi–he elevates each one of us who pursues the craft. For that, I am grateful and well satisfied.

The internal rhyme is delicious in this. We need to hear you read one of your poems. Or several. 😉
