  2. This is marvelous–you might be a “commencement poet laureate”, Paul. My fave line is, “the figure of future”–though the picture which came into my mind was rather a warning, like the grim reaper….I guess I lost all my idealism a long time ago.

    waving from safety” – exactly! I’m in my senior year in college this year and the picture that you used and the title just caught my attention 🙂 And it made me more excited for my graduation 🙂

  4. I think you’ve captured the essence of graduation in your poem. I’ve been to my share of them, my own and the two generations that follow me. I always feel the moment of excitement when an unknown future “commences”.
