no safety in sanity
lucid minds
ever soft targets
for raging reality
clear heads may run
but can’t hide
from the punishing
drum beats
of travesty
problems of ethics
the deep
crucial questions
rain down their
ballistic barrage
upon rational heads
compos mentis
no ticket to peace
no escape from
infliction of wounds
by acuity
all at once tragic
coherent perceptive
of mischief and irony
hate and depravity
accurate judgments
are painful to
sinew and psyche
the keen and the
cognizant cursed
by their insight
no safety in sanity
better by far
the life lived
in benign sweet
asylum of madness
Life’s great puzzle.

Yes . . . It does seem the post-modern man has no use for reason when rationalization serves him so well. It is as if on a visit to the zoo the animals have all come to look at US, shaking their heads in disbelief and thanking god we all have cages around us! Ha!

similar thoughts no doubt occurred to the author of Planet of the Apes

Madness or sanity tempered by faith. I suppose some would say they are really not so different.

sadly, there are many who associate faith with madness – for me, it’s always been the opposite

That has also been my experience though many in my family have thought me sometimes a touch looney.

having never been mad, I’m just guessing at the benign part
