“Crucified” by Carol Schiff
darkness descends
upon Adam’s skullcap
in terrible moment
of innocent sacrifice
death freely suffered
to consummate
love for the sinner
saved from himself
from his earned
condemnation
redeemed by the
purgative mercy
that flows from the
blood of the cross
even down to this day
a redemption afforded
the same to believers
and heretics granting
to all of humanity
gifts of renewal
the chance to become
something more
something better
in grace of the legacy
left for the taking from
Golgotha grim and
forever sublime
Thank you for sharing this powerful poem today on Good Friday, Paul!

Calvary, the place where the story has it, new and better ‘values’ replaced those gifted by the old, angry God. A place where tragedy triggered the ‘something better’ you speak of. Wonderful words Paul, notwithstanding my lack of faith…you have my respect Sir.

Magnificent, Paul. It fills me with an absolute silence to reflect. Thank you. Best wishes from baldy.

I’ve been thinking today of the Disciples after the day of the Cross, bewildered and afraid. Your last eight lines are a balm to me these long years later.

A chance to become something better – what a shame when we don’t even try.
