(Regarding “Citizen Kane”)
end of innocence
imprints its tragedy
under the skin
upon lips in extremis
failed man of great
worthless success
in mad grip of
insatiable wants
all alone in a crowd
of dead lovers
forsaken by friends
held forever in pity
he deeply despised
bitter irony
ever remembered
as less than
he thought of himself
crystal snowglobe
of dreams
fallen shattered
a boyhood sled
source of his
long absent joy
now consigned to
indifferent cold
plebian flames
cool

I like this. I need to get around to seeing Citizen Kane. It’s in some cinema list of top 100 movies, I’m pretty sure… and if I am not mistaken, it’s inspired you before!

you might be correct about a past inspiration – I honestly can’t remember – but it’s always been one of my favorites

I feel a certain Presidential candidate in this most clever poem. That said it scores in bucket loads for what it is and what it reflects.

Welles knew his man long before he’d been born – Trump & Hearst are of a highly recognizable kind, no matter their different eras

Your images create a sharp composite of this man. I like especially “crystal snowglobe of dreams fallen shattered”. Sad how innocence dissipates.

that scene was a particularly artistic touch by Welles
