“Fishing Boat” by JWJarts
gentle lapping ebb-tide
tugs at my moorage
nudged toward the shore
waiting for my master
gillnets set for casting
once clear of the shoals
meantime pelicans
watching for breakfast
keep me company
while I doze on the swells

Really enjoyed this. With the exception of poetry (which I’ve only taken to reading for less than a year), I don’t read much fiction these days. But when I do, it is always stories of the sea! Neat how you wrote from the perspective of the boat. Take care. Beth

thanks, Beth – I love things nautical, too – build model sailing ships – FYI my favorite seafaring books are the long series by Patrick O’Brian

Can feel the sea breeze, smell the salt air and hear the waves on the shore. You painted such a vivid picture!

I give the photo all the credit – this is the first time I wrote a poem specifically inspired by a picture that I liked

When I checked and saw the title in my email, I thought hm! this is different, then I thought about the sounds of the oceans and read further. You captured everything. Brilliant

This paints a really beautiful watery picture… The early hours of the morning on a shore…

Love the poem, but the picture just jumps out at you. Beautiful combo of nature and poetry.

thank you – this is a rare instance of having found a picture that then inspired my poem – ordinarily, the poem always comes first and then I seek out a complementary image

Well that definitely explains why they go so well together. That might be a fun exercise. I collect many photos. Look at one and see what poetry it inspires.

Only a fisherman can write a fisherman’s verse . . .
