“Full Moon” Photo by Cape Cod Landscapes
shimmering landscape
white midnight
entices the notice
of sleepless old bones
philosophical questions
retreat the late light
better left to the
candlelit labor of shadows
uncommon bright moments
too special to darken
with deepthink solemnity
weightlessness wanting
no dragging of dreams
don the snowshoes
make stride through that
small easy world
spanning none but the
intimate acres of heart
with a mind free of thought
left to regulate breathing
the breath of the moon
Oh, night and winter, the best of the best

I find that getting outdoors and moving can take me much farther than ponderous thought…snowshoeing in moonlight sounds wonderful…so I thoroughly relate to these lines.

Love the poem and the photo. I’ve always wanted to go to New England either in wintertime or in fall. The last three lines are especially good. I recently did a winter themed poem myself, if you are interested in reading it. Here’s the link: https://thenightshiftguy.wordpress.com/2017/03/02/poem-frozen-city/

The meter and images of your poem are exquisite. Your experience of aging creates rich raw material for poetry.
