on a walk in the weather
I bumped into yesterday
looked just like me
stuck a gun in my ribs
and stole all my youth
as I fell like the rain
pouring out of myself
slipping into the gutter
my wrinkled bones
riding a river of rubbish
right into the yawning
black drain of tomorrow

Enjoyable, excellent yet sad and painful poem, Paul. It brought the lyrics and the music video below to mind.
“Wish You Were Here (Pink Floyd Cover)”
by Sparklehorse & Thom Yorke
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
Did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
Cold comfort for change?
Did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We’re just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have we found?
The same old fears.
Wish you were here.

Incredible pacing in this piece. It seams to quickly move forward and then disappear/expire as the narrative develops .

This is a hard thing to like, but your eloquence is brilliant. Very moving. ( I’m curious if it is all metaphorical, or actually happened, going by your tags?)

I love the imagery of meeting myself yesterday – ending in the black drain of tomorrow. The colors in the pictures tell me another story of rain and life.
