it’s not fear which sickens
nor anger which quickens
it’s more like surprise
tears stinging the eyes
cloyed vocal chords closed
no longer disposed
to utter the breeze
conversing with trees
in other words scaring
the truth out of bearing
uncomfortable judgments
retaining begrudgments
to stink in the void
life’s sweetness destroyed
in the sorrowful breach
of love’s promising speech

This is the season for miscommunications apparently–which makes me wonder why I’m braving the comment boxes. Good poem, as usual, Paul.

Oh Paul, you gave me a much-needed chuckle this morning–thank you!!! I’m about to get out the duct tape, and will probably disconnect my computer–then we’ll all be safe.

Paul Simon would have liked the title – moreover he would have like the entire poem I think. I certainly do.

I could probably write a long comment, but I’ll just say how much I love the painting and its title–The Promise Tree–wonderful.
