backs turned to the wind
skyscrapers huddle for warmth
winter howls off the lake
punch-drunk pedestrians lurch
leaning into their livelihoods

I am where the valleys are deep, the mountains are high, and the wind moans through trees...
Love this. Trying to figure out the perspective… Michigan Avenue, a little north of the river?

that sounds about right – with what I presume is the Wrigley Blg far down on the right – I was a frequent visitor, but that was long ago

I live just across Lake Michigan from Chicago, and your poem captures the Windy City well. I especially like your last line.

Wow, “lurch leaning into their livelihoods” the apple of gold in your setting of silver. Your writing outdoes the image ten fold.

I worked for a time in London and crossing the Thames of a winter’s morning is reminiscent of you poem – especially so the sanctuary of tall builders north of the river.

Wonderful to be reminded of Chicago winters. I lived there not far from the lake and only a #6 bus ride from the Loop for twenty energizing years. Thanks.

when my nyc firm was bought out by a chicago company, I spent 1 or 2 days a week there for several years – walking across those bridges in the loop during windy winters was quite a challenge
