iron wrought from rebellion
a pylon to gracefully pierce
the blue skin of the sky
an inaugural century carried
by elegant lattice and truss
to the heights of new history
footings embedded in blood
of the montagnard terror
that laid to their graves the
last members of ancien régime
disappeared by the guillotine
dead to all memory hidden
forever and future beneath
its tall prominent shadow
this tower proud symbol of
conflict resolved stands in
green martial fields where the
legions of Caesar rehearsed
subjugation of solipsist cities
where fascism fell of its fallacy
ancient and terribly modern
this tower as icon stands firm
alongside Marianne and the
tricolor filling republican hearts
of all Frenchmen embraced by
the spirit of violent uprise
and deadly reprisal the ethics
attending compelled revolution
liberté, égalité, fraternité,
ou la mort
Yes, truly elegant – the tower and your tribute.

I especially love “blue skin of sky” and “wrought from rebellion”–powerful phrases in yet another masterful piece.

I hoped you would 🙂 I was worried (from your comment) that you were offended by my “No Longer In Print” piece–and I was sure so it would amuse you a little…so that was a bummer…

either I’m reading too many poems of my memory is shot – what piece is that?

It was the one at Misplaced Peaces about authors being out of print, having fans and detractors both…and you commented “screw the detractors”. I probably confused you by speaking from ‘here’ about ‘there’ 🙂 And now that I’ve reread your comment, I don’t even know why I asked you about it…if you’re like me, you don’t remember what you wrote, or what comments you left and received, 24 hrs later 🙂 So, essentially, “never mind” 🙂
