(Regarding Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe, 1546-1601)
silver nose in the air
eccentricities famous
enamored of liquor
and women and spheres
drew the heavens
mathematically
reaching degrees of
flamboyant precision
a swashbuckling genius
who cuckolded kings
while resolving the
naked eye parallax
rearranged stars in
new accurate catalog
left upon agonized death
come with rumors of
murder and intrigue
to one with a keener
copernican mind
johan kepler who gave us
celestial physics
the rest as they say
is but history
Brahe’s self-composed epitaph:
“He lived like a sage and died like a fool”
Oooh.

‘Silver nose in the air, eccentricities famous, enamored of liquor, and women and spheres’ – a Bohemian opener like no other. As to the whole item, all I can say, Paul is that you’ve raised the bar yet again.

not so much knowledge as useless bits of odd information that cling to memory like cobwebs

Well those are lofty, shimmering cobwebs indeed.

Hardly “useless” when they inspire such lovely work as this original poem. So glad Eugenia reblogged or I’d have missed it. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hey Paul,
Succinct: every word carries brevity and importance, and the a weight of a merrily wayward genius lol 🙂 Thank you.
“He lived like a sage and died like a fool” – Rock ‘n’ roll dude! What a star! 🙂
Thank you Paul,
Namaste 🙂
