“Box of Rocks” by John N. Agnew
From her earthen womb
Gaia gave graciously
Unto my poor mortal hands
Geological viable ova
Older than Hesiod
Unseen by his all-seeing eyes
Unknown by his all-knowing mind
Escaping the narrative voice
Of Theogony
They nest where I placed them
A reverent clutch safely laid
In a gently scooped warm oaken bowl
Organically sculpted
By modern artisan fingers
Each egg of its own
Unique color and shape
Each plucked from the uterine ground
Wherever my family has dwelled
These precious plain stones
Became birth
Became life
Absorbed nectars of joy
And purulent sorrows
Imbued with the intimate
Floods of experience
Cherished as memories
Ready to touch

Those Ebenezers are powerful things.

I love it when the highway markers remind me of where I am and where I am going in the Spirit.

nice piece Paul, I had just a few moments ago, finished putting all my stones/rocks/gathering pieces into a new bowl I had found at a thrift store ❤ most excellent work my friend ❤

Paul, as a rock collector since childhood (with bowls of them all around the house) I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. Love it!

Coincidentally I posted one on rocks too this afternoon. (Don’t know if you still follow my blog or not.) The poem isn’t as deep and eloquent as yours but I do love the synchronicity. 🙂

I seem to have lost you – trying to reconnect but I have lots of problems with the reader functions

That’s okay, Paul. As long as I can still get to YOUR blog. 🙂 WP has a glitch where it sometimes drops followers. (I sometimes have to re-follow people too.)

I used ‘exquisite’ much too often here I suppose; no matter, for exquisite this most assuredly is and always shall be Paul.
