“Scattered Destiny” by Joseph Kobina Prah
anger panic and fear
speed from
stranger to stranger
like flames match-lit
race along fuses
of volatile neurons
to leap across gaps of
magnesium mindlessness
horrid with consequence
masses corrupted in
white hot sparked unison
here is impenitent man
irresponsibly fractioned
burned whole
soul reduced and adapted
to feral behaviors
black acts
of a wild
human herd

“Truth always rests with the minority … because the minority is generally formed by those who really have an opinion, while the strength of a majority is illusory, formed by the gangs who have no opinion.” – Søren Kierkegaard
From my book Pieces of Wine
That was a great poem and that Kierkegaard quote is all too true.

As the words to a song I was advised to listen to earlier went, ‘And the weak need to be lead, and the tender I’ll carry to their bed…’ Sadly, I’ve forgotten who the singer was presently. A fine poem indeed, Paul.

Having checked, they are the words of a young Brit gal…Laura Marling, now domiciled in the US I’m told. I have now listened to the entire album, ‘I Speak Because I Can’ and can report that it is a true musical gem.

why is it that crowds always drive one another to the bad and not the good…

I don’t really know, but I suspect it has something to do with the fact that an authentic conscience is a very individual virtue

This poem is so appropriate for the current climate of the world. The masses are so led by rhetoric while, as Kierkegaard suggests, there are many others quietly doing the work of turning things around. Thank you for sharing this beautiful piece and for visiting the Tovarysh.

I was first drawn to the picture. A strangely anonymous crowd. Your words weave an unstable chemical reaction. Then to end with Kierkegaard. Really beautiful.

that anonymity suited my purpose nicely
