calliope pipes pump out epics
streaming miles of stanzas
heroically urged
through eras of brainwave conception

bearded principles chase trending glory
across vellum theaters
syllabic swords clash
throwing epitaph-worthy cold sparks

euterpian harps extrude lyrics
vibrating choruses
hairpin refrains
varnished gastroliths plucked from sweet soil

cloying earthen emotions float skyward
clouding indisposed ears
moist trivial mist
sucking reason through struggling gills

my own nameless muse breathes impatience
weaves a few dozen lines
on her busiest loom
dropping threads of conventional forms

using handy truth-dyed wild metaphor
volition’s own fingers
paint upon textiles
draping self-portraits on copular eyes

bodies litter the landscapes
where poetry died lacking muse
stilled and breathless
word carcasses carrion
readers consume with
expectant cold eyes
plucking metrical morsels
from ligature forms
stretched by metaphors
past their own staleness
between allegorical bones
unlyrical verse with bare
vestige of edible stanzas
means many more poems
need be read to feel
even the slightest bit
nourished and in the end
that’s not so terribly bad
