families strain to maintain
their extended identity
flung to far corners of
work-a-day exigence
cutting themselves on the
sharpness of distances
hanging by virtual tendons
ethereal tissues technology
grows across gaps ever
widened displacement
of once vital organs beset
by asynchrony left to evolve
into new independent
corporeal entities

I see my family in this poem as I’m sure many others do as well! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We can worry about next year later!

Lovely picture. My poet’s eye can see that granddaughter tucked in among all the rest of you. Have a wonderful and blessed Christmas holiday and healthy, happy, and prosperous New Year.

And yet somehow even the new creations reflect something of the identity with which they were stamped at the beginning.

Aw, this is so lovely. I enjoy seeing family photos and trying to pick out all the relationships, seeing who looks like mum/dad etc. You have quite a gang there. Beautiful pic and words that understand the dynamics of modern family living.
