tall men walk the earth
raise their fingers
to fondle the clouds
coaxing coquettes
of snow from wry
shiftable smiles
and come-hither hems
they insouciantly wade
the breadth of the oceans
some coming some going
to grope foreign weather
enticed by exotic
enchantments of
unabashed novelty
they speak thunder
flash lightning
from glowering eyes
spit out rain
along squall lines
and exhale the wind
turned by swaggering
tongues to form
sensual circular storms
till their brides declare
halt to these spasms
of inchoate manliness
recalling husbands
to faith and fidelity
pulling the sun
from their bosoms
rehanging the blue
back in place across
endlessly mollified
conjugal skies

This is really fine, superb imagery/phrasing. I love every line.

Hmmm. That men would be men and not need their wives to call them to faithfulness.

Hmm delicious etc words and all that poetic stuff, but are we still that stereotyped, sexist and traditional? Do we really accept that now? Sorry, but I don’t.

oh my – perhaps you misinterpret – yet, that’s the thing about poetry – it means whatever the reader hears, I suppose

Don’t see how this is sexist! A piece of word art the image painted a reflection of the way things were/maybe still are and if anything empowering the female. That’s my take on this great piece.

Wonderful many-splendored painting and images of “endlessly mollified conjugal skies”. I’m probably showing my age but I feel that men have a need to return to their nests in good time and women sometimes long for freedom.
