the times always breed
the men they will need
the stalwarts who stand
sword and scales well in hand
the heroes who vie
clean of heart clear of eye
every age sees them rise
against malice and lies
fully pledged to the fight
setting history right
but whence will they find
valid allies of mind
who must carry the day
break the bent toward decay
every star needs a cast
for the triumph to last
will they find it in me
to be honest and free
with sufficient resolve
for the world to evolve
giving light to desire
with the champion’s fire

The content cannot be faulted. Once more a depthful poem communicating it’s ideas well.
I enjoy reading your poems that rhyme, but if I may pass on a piece of advice I received: rhyming lines should share the same number of syllables, especially couplets. My mother-in-law-to-be told me that as I was editing my poetry collection and it really did help a lot. Hope that helps in future works. Keep up the wonderful writings 🙂

thank you so much for your thoughtful advice – when I use couplets (ad that’s rare) I strive for lines of common metre, not syllables

Isn’t common metre typically a pattern of 4,3,4,3 iambs (iambs themselves being 1 stressed syllable and 1 unstressed syllable) ?

I’m not sure myself! There’s a lot I have to learn and understand about poetry.
For me following the ear is usually the best way to draft a poem, but then the real work comes in when I fine tune it. Is it similar with you?
