“Powerless” by Tommie Olofsson
temperamental utilities
bane of a rural existence
dead lights and well taps
phones caught uncharged
ill-suited for life off the grid
bones and being unable to
move through the dimmed
cold milieu of old age stark
reminder that powerlessness
is the province of youth
I’ve gone without a landline for many years now, but one thing that was nice about was having a phone even with a power outage. (except for, of course, when we had cordless phone – always kept a corded phone to plug in on those occasions)

I use cordless landline, but also keep an old corded plug in as you described

Changed days from the childhood excitement at a power outage. Now it’s just an inconvenience. I hope you’re not off long, Paul.

It is in our weakness our true strength is revealed; in doing without we own all . . .
