“Essence” by Pat Stacy
good men and bad
one common identity
borne by red blood
yet distinctions
will set them apart
by their choices
deliberate calculus
testing the values
at various points
of continuum one
dead-straight spectrum
the only true path
between simplified
black and white answers
the colors of ethos
indifferently selfless
or selfish of light
the electromagnetic
affinities drawn
into tribes of belief
who attract or repel
individual egos the
human holistic experience
bound by biology
finding its freemost
expression in personal
mindful morality
each man an actor
an entity
owning his judgment
It’s that “personal mindful morality” that makes the difference, every time.

I agree entirely with Rivrvlogr, above. An exceptional piece of work; exceptional artistry, Paul

Mindful is key to so many choices man makes…some follow blindly and are not mindful but still, they impact on the world.

to follow blindly is also a mindful decision – and bears no less responsibility

Unfortunately, that too is a decision too many make.

It’s fascinating to watch the faces and the votes of the members of congress in the light of your poem during the recent healthcare votes: those trying to hide behind group`think and those willing to do the right thing . . . A jillion little choices have brought them to where they are, to who they now are!
