in eternal contention
with forces of darkness
humanity serving their
flesh and bone battleground
ever commingling its peace
with its pleasures and pains
all the nobler and baser
intentions consigned to a blur
every starburst of light
quickly swallowed by shadow
the material evil ensnared
in mortality yields lifelong
ignorance suffering
not even death will relieve
unless mind supplants body
allowing the self come aware
of the truth in its gnosis
that virtue may triumph with
knowledge the only salvation

“God judged it better to bring good out of evil than to suffer no evil to exist.” – Saint Augustine
The scales are out of balance now…once more evil is in the ascendency. As you say here ‘virtue may triumph with knowledge’ particularly relevant presently. Splendid stuff Paul.

the possibility of locking shut our minds and submitting to the minds of demagogues as our surrogates looms ever so closer

I like the quote of St. Augustine about God and evil in the world. In regard to the present struggle I have been thinking of life after Eden and remembering Milton’s idea of the “Fortunate Fall.” You are among poets who help mortals grasp things more clearly.

you do me great kindness – leaving me a bit speechless and a little embarrassed – thanks dearly

Give em nothing!!! Flatline. Participate in no evil. Touch nothing unclean. Serve the holy and desire the holy. Otherwise the whirlpool of destruction will have us in its dizzying vortex, and we are consigned to a mangling death. I read recently that sin is left in the world that we may experience forgiveness, when we are forced to beg for mercy and know God. Resonates with what you have written. Pretty much feeling the overwhelming onslaught of this reality every day. You are not alone, Oracle Lenzi. Give em nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
